Amarinus lacustris is a species of freshwater crab from Australia, New Zealand and nearby islands, where it lives in water of various salinities.
It grows up to 10 mm ( in) wide, with an H-shaped groove on its back. It is an omnivore and is eaten by crayfish and was first discovered in Lake Pupuke, near Auckland, and is the only freshwater crab in New : Malacostraca.
studies suggest that the acquisition of a crab-like body form, known as carcinization [see, for a review of this concept], has occurred multiple times during evolu-tion of the group [20,33].

CRAB Brachyura: CRAB:(Brachyura) The term crab is often applied to several different groups of short (nose to tail) decapod crustaceans with thick exoskeletons, but only members of the Brachyura are true taxa, such ashermit crabs, porcelain crabs and king crabs are, despite superficial similarities, not crabs at all; rather, they belong to the Anomura and can be distinguished from.
ANOMURA The Anomura contains 17 families and about species, including hermits and deep-sea king crabs, squat lobsters and porcelain crabs.
Only some of these are crab-like, and in this guide, we include one family, the Porcellanidae – also known as the porcelain crabs, false or half crabs. They have a pair of chelipeds but onlyFile Size: 6MB.
Crabs are decapod crustaceans of the infraorder Brachyura, which typically have a very short projecting "tail" (Greek: βραχύς, romanized: brachys = short, οὐρά / οura = tail), usually hidden entirely under the live in all the world's oceans, in fresh water, and on land, are generally covered with a thick exoskeleton and have a single pair of : Malacostraca.
Significant works have been done on the diversity and distribution of porcellanids crabs in Indian coasts. The present work reports and describe porcelain crabs from the western coast of India. Five species of porcelain crabs in three genera are reported from the western coast of India.
